Summer Reading Programs at the Flint Public Library
Summer Reading Programs at the Flint Public Library for children, teens and adults kick-off June 18
All ages are invited to the Summer Reading kick-off at the Flint Public Library, 1026 E. Kearsley St., 4-5:30pm, Wednesday, June 1. Adults and teens register for special programs and children register and pick up a reading kit. Everyone is invited to see wacky science with Scheer Genius (magician). Wacky Science is more than just bang, poof and pop. This show makes everyone a mad scientist using simple household items to perform unbelievable and zany science experiments while focusing safety and the scientific method.
Children—ages preschool-6th grade register for the “Fizz Boom Read!” summer “Reading Club Challenge.” Sharpen your reading skills, attend a variety of programs, and read and do activities to report to the librarian and earn wristbands. Infants, toddlers, & preschoolers get credit for stories read to them. Reading over the summer helps children maintain or increase their reading skills so they are better prepared for the fall. Parents can also sign-up children online at www.fpl.info “Fizz, Boom, Read Summer Reading Program” to receive more information.
Teens and tweens have special interests! “Spark a Reaction” and register for the Library’s Teen Production workshops; summer anthology, mobile studio, altered books, monster makeup, caricature, cornhusk doll and babysitters academy. In addition teens can join the Raise It Up Poetry Club and Young Writers Group.
Adults participate in the “Literary Elements” Summer Reading Club. Read a book each week to earn a chance to win a weekly prize. New this year is the Marginalia Book Club; check out one of the selected Marginalia book titles and write, yes actually write in the book, your observations, constructive criticisms etc… Then return it and other patrons will check out the book and do the same, including reading your comments and reacting back to you and the author and around and around the book and comments will go!
Admission to all programs is free. For more information call 232-7111.
