Salvation Army’s Emergency Services in Genesee County

Salvation Army’s Emergency Services in Genesee County are

Focus of Charles Stewart Mott Foundation Grant

Efforts by The Salvation Army of Genesee County to provide area residents with key emergency services for help with utility shut off notices, water turn off and eviction notices received an important boost recently, thanks to a one-year $150,000 grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. The C. S. Mott Foundation grant award is a blessing to The Army and the families we serve. Hundreds of families throughout Genesee County will be helped this year because of the incredible generosity of the C. S. Mott Foundation. “We are excited that our partnership with the Mott foundation continues on and the $150,000 grant that is being given this year will go a long way to help those who are needful in our community.” states Major Timothy Parker, Associate Officer for Business Administration

The Salvation Army’s Comprehensive Emergency Assistance Program assists families and individuals with emergency needs for which there are no public forms of assistance, by providing a temporary safe haven to those experiencing personal financial crisis and providing them with the proper tools and guidance to make life changing decisions. "While it is important for The Salvation Army, and its clients, that we received this generous grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation that will fund direct payments towards clients’ bills, it is also important that we raise the funds needed to cover the supportive costs, i.e. staff, insurance and building costs. Throughout the year fundraising efforts, such as the Red Kettle Campaign will provide the financial support in order to provide the Emergency Assistance Programs to our neighbors in time of crisis”. Major Parker stated.

In Fiscal Year 2013-2014 (October 2013 through September 2014), The Salvation Army provided Emergency Financial Assistance to 1,043 households comprised of 2,588 Genesee County residents. Of these households, 174 households received eviction prevention services, 732 received utility shut-off prevention assistance and 144 households received water shutoff prevention. More than $1.2 million in assistance was provided to Genesee County families seeking help.
