2,000 Santa’s To Descend On Downtown Flint

Join 2,000 costumed Santa’s as they run and walk through downtown Flint to raise money for youth programming at the YMCA of Greater Flint. The 5th Annual Santa Run/Walk presented by Al Serra Auto Plaza, will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014. The 5K and 1 mile fun run and walk begin at 12:00 p.m.; the race route begins at the Flint Farmer’s Market and will take runners and walkers through downtown Flint and then finish back at the flat lot to celebrate at the DDA holiday village. Registration for the race begins at 9:30 at the Flint Farmer’s Market. New this year, will be the fastest Santa competition sponsored by Advanced Physical Therapy Center.

More than just a running event, the Santa Run/Walk has entertainment for the entire family. This stroller friendly event also encourages participants to bring dogs on leashes to participate in the race. Every year, choirs, bands, jugglers and more entertain participants as they complete the race route. “The money raised from this event goes to our Partner With Youth Financial Aid Fund which helps offset the cost of Y services for youth, families, and seniors,” said Janet Tweddle, YMCA of Greater Flint Chief Operating Officer and Santa Run Race Director. “Last year we raised just over $400,000 but handed out nearly $500,000 in financial aid so the need is still great. No one is every turned away from the Y.” At Noon, Mayor of Flint Dayne Walling will be on hand to accept a check on behalf of the Greater Flint community for the funds raised as part of the 2014 Partner With Youth Campaign. The mayor will then participate in the race.
